Hey Chet,

Batteries are definitely one of the most important things to consider when buying a drill. I thought I did give some details on the battery life in my reviews, but maybe I wasn't clear enough so my apologies for that.

The new LXT Li-Ion batteries that Makita is using are actually supposed to be really good. I've heard they last much longer than traditional batteries and they charge quicker too. Of course, the length of time they last will be determined by how often you're using the drill and the type of work you're doing with it so keep that in mind.

As far as choosing between the 144 and the 140 impact drills, both of them use the same batteries and battery technology in them so there shouldn't be much of a difference there. Another nice thing about these 2 drills and most of the newer Makita's is that they come with 2 batteries instead of 1. This way you can have 1 charging while you're using the other and as soon as 1 dies, you got the other ready to go.

There's only a $10 price difference between the 144 and the 140 on Amazon so me personally, I would go with the 144 since it's a bit more powerful and only $10 more. Both of them have great reviews on Amazon too so it seems like either one will be a good choice. You can check out the reviews for each one here: <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001TWPRCO?ie=UTF8&tag=woodwodesig08-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001TWPRCO" rel="nofollow">Makita 144</a> and <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EDPSSM?ie=UTF8&tag=woodwodesig08-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000EDPSSM" rel="nofollow">Makita 140</a>

I hope this helps you decide. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Good day to you sir! I have been reading a lot of reviews on many web sites and have come to the concloution that the drill one needs is the one, one can aford at the time.
The item that I'm more interrested in is the issue of BATTERY'S!!!! I have had many drill's over the years and CAN NOT keep battery's more than six months at best. It does not make any difference if I use it every day or once a month. The reviews that I have read DO NOT say a word about the life and quality of the battery's.
I happen to like your reviews a bit more so you are the one I choose to ask. Can you, would you be able to help with this.
I am now looking at the Makita 144 or 140 impact drill but very much scippticale about spending the money for one if the battery will not last two years as I have heard some in my area say. Most of the time I just look at those people and say your foul of more shit than a barn yard. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
