I thought I did give some details on the battery life in my reviews, but maybe I wasn't clear enough so my apologies for that. The new LXT Li-Ion batteries that Makita is using are actually supposed to be really good. I've heard they last much longer than traditional batteries and they charge quicker too. Of course, the length of time they last will be determined by how often you're using the drill and the type of work you're doing with it so keep that in mind. As far as choosing between the 144 and the 140 impact drills, both of them use the same batteries and battery technology in them so there shouldn't be much of a difference there. Another nice thing about these 2 drills and most of the newer Makita's is that they come with 2 batteries instead of 1. This way you can have 1 charging while you're using the other and as soon as 1 dies, you got the other ready to go. There's only a $10 price difference between the 144 and the 140 on Amazon so me personally, I would go with the 144 since it's a bit more powerful and only $10 more. Both of them have great reviews on Amazon too so it seems like either one will be a good choice.
