That’s where the 18V Makita BHP454 comes in. Both a driver-drill and a hammer driver-drill combined into one, the Makita BHP454 cordless drill allows you to do more work quicker than ever before.

Compact and extremely powerful, the Makita BHP454 cordless drill is leading in its class. It packs an astonishing 560 in.lbs. of Max Torque and 360 in.lbs. of PTI Torque with its 4-pole motor. The two-speed transmission can either function at 0-400 RPM in low speed or 0-1,700 RPM in high speed, which means that you can adjust the drill according to your specific needs.

When in hammer mode, the drill delivers 0-6,000 BPM in low speed and an extremely powerful 0-25,500 BPM in high speed, which you would use when drilling into masonry or concrete.

It’s important that a drill is also comfortable to use and easy to carry, and the Makita BHP454 drill accounts for this critical component. It weighs an incredibly light 4.9 lbs. and is only 9-9/16 inches in length, which makes it easy to fit into tight areas. For maximum visibility, the drill comes equipped with a built-in L.E.D. light to illuminate the work area.

When you’re in the middle of a long, difficult job, the last thing you need is the drill’s batteries to run out on you. With the Makita BHP454 cordless drill, this will never happen. The drill comes with two 18V LXT Lithium-Ion batteries so that if one ever does die, you’re prepared with another so that your job is not interrupted.

These batteries have an Optimum Charging System which analyzes the best and fastest way to recharge, so you will never be left waiting longer than 30 minutes. The truly amazing thing about the LXT Lithium-Ion batteries, however, is that they are lighter, have a longer run time, more shock-absorption, and a lower self-discharge rate than the typical 18V Ni-Cd batteries you will find in many drills.

Perfect for:

1) Percussive hammer-drilling

2) Fastening anchors

3) Drilling into masonry

4) Setting small anchors into concrete

5) HVAC

6) Woodworking

7) Plumbing

8 ) Electrical

Great features:

4-pole motor with 560 in./lbs. of torque

2-speed transmission

Shift-Lock drive system to easily switch between both settings

2 L.E.D. lights

Belt hooks

Lightweight-4.9 lbs.

Ergonomic grip

Cons:

Chuck feels wobbly occasionally

If you’re in the market for a new hammer-drill/driver combo, know that the Makita BHP454 is truly one of the best money can buy. The two-speed transmission allows for both extremely powerful yet safe drilling, and the compact size, comfort grip, and L.E.D. light ensure that drilling will be convenient and not at all a hassle to you. Also, the battery life seen in the Lithium-Ion batteries is unheard of, and you can feel confident that when you need the drill, it will always be prepared.

One customer from North Dakota wrote this Makita BHP454 review. Coming from someone who has tried several drills before, this customer’s great comments about the Makita BHP454 proves that this particular tool is one of the best in its class:

“This has to be the best hammer/drill/driver that i’ve ever used.

It’s power/weight combo is perfect. I could use this drill all day without being fatigued and the battery would keep on going.

Drilling 1 1/4″ holes with speedbore max bits does not pose a problem for this drill. It eats through lumber with ease.
This drill easily drills in 3/16″ holes in concrete (just as fast as our corded hammer drill) to drive in anchors and it doesn’t take much to drill up to an 1″ holes in masonry (not quite as fast as the corded but very convenient to not have a cord)

The added handle is NEEDED in most cases, with all the power it could easily rip the drill out of your hand.

As others have noted, i’ve experienced the “chuck wobble” but I’ve also noticed this on all of the other drills that my co-workers have, from dewalt to milwaukee, they all seem to have a little bit of wobble, maybe it’s somewhat normal in a hammer/drill/driver?

This drill has convinced me to purchase alot of other 18v lxt makita stuff and all of it has proven to be great stuff. From the recip. saw to the new btd144 impact drill, plus the LED lights on these tools comes in handy quite often!

Makita > all others.”

One of the best you can buy is the 18V Makita BHP451 cordless drill. With it’s Lithium-Ion technology and Shift-Lock design, this hammer drill is one that will never let you down.

The Makita BHP451 is actually two tools combined into one: a hammer drill and a driver. Unlike most drills with only two speed options, this has three so that you can vary the speed depending on exactly what kind of project you are doing. The low gear is 0-300 RPM, mid-range is 0-600 RPM, and top gear is 0-1,700 RPM.

The true power of the Makita BHP451 cordless drill, however, is seen when it is in hammer mode. It can deliver up to 4,500 blows per minute (BPM) in low gear, 9,000 BPM in mid-range, and an unprecedented 25,500 BPM in the third gear. The best part is that switching from drill to drive mode is incredibly easy with the use of the Shift-Lock switch.

An important component of every power tool is the battery. It’s necessary to have batteries that have a long life and charge very quickly, and the Makita BHP451 does not let us down. The drill uses LXT Lithium-Ion batteries that allow 1,400 battery life cycles.

The batteries are lightweight and allow for a longer run time, a reduction in the self-discharge rate, and shock-absorbing features for protection. When purchasing the Makita BHP451 drill, you will receive two batteries so that when one dies, you are ready to go with another. However, it won’t be long before the dead one is brought to life again. The extremely innovative 45-minute Optimum Charger is something new that Makita has come out with. The charger “talks” to the batteries through a CPU and memory chip so that it knows the best and fastest charging method.

Having all these amazing features doesn’t mean anything if you’re not comfortable while drilling. The ergonomic grip ensures that your hand and arm will not become fatigued too quickly. The grip is slightly curved for maximum comfort, and the Makita BHP451 even has an auxiliary handle so that you can be confident that you have a great grip and will not drop the drill when working. Also, this drill is extremely lightweight and compact so it’s easy to carry around when you’re working. At a length of just 9-7/8 inches and a weight of 4.9 lbs., the Makita BHP451 cordless drill promises both comfort and power.

Perfect for:

1) Electricians

2) Concrete work

4) Contractor

It is one of many in the long line of Makita drills that are heavy-duty, powerful, and reliable. With it’s 3-speed selection and high number of BPM, you can be confident that this drill will get the job done, no matter what that job may be. Because of the advanced Shift-Lock Driver System and amazing Optimum Charger, you are promised that the Makita BHP451 cordless drill will be both incredibly easy to use and efficient, which is what everyone looks for in their drill.

Here is a Makita BHP451 review that was written by E. Smith, who stands by her purchase and cannot say enough positive things about this drill:

“I needed a new drill for a couple of big home renovation projects and bought this based on the review in fine homebuilding. I was also attracted to the fact that lithium-ion batteries are a lot less toxic to manufacture and dispose of. the drill has been fantastic– even better than I hoped. Great power, balance, ease of use, and battery life.”

With the Makita BTP140, you can completely avoid this issue. It’s as if you have four tools in one, which allows you to complete a variety of jobs much quicker than if you had to use several different tools. Combining an impact driver, hammer drill, driver, and drill into one tool is not easy, but Makita has done it. This tool can do almost anything, including driving lag bolts, driving screws with clutch settings, and drilling into various materials, such as concrete, wood, metal, and plastic.

No matter if you’re a professional or simply a DIY-er, you cannot go wrong with the Makita BTP140. It packs 1,240 in.lbs. of max torque with its 4-pole motor, has 16 different clutch settings, and two different speed options (0-700 RPM and 0-2,300 RPM).

If you’re drilling into concrete and masonry, this drill puts out 0-27,600 blows per minute (BPM), which is extremely powerful. However, the less powerful impact mode delivers 0-3,200 BPM so that you do not break any screws.

All of these amazing features are packed into an incredibly compact design. Weighing in at only 3.9 pounds and having a length of 7-3/8 inches, the Makita BTP140 is one of the smallest drills in its class. The unique ergonomic shape ensures that your arm will not quickly become fatigued, and the phosphorescent bumper ring and L.E.D. light will ensure that you can always see what you’re working with.

Perfect for:

All in all, this Makita BTP140 review should leave no doubt in your mind that this is one of the best values for your money. If you’re sick and tired of owning more tools than you can count, get rid of them all and purchase the versatile Makita BTP140.

Packing a ton of power into a compact design, this drill is both unique and extremely efficient. An impact driver, hammer drill, driver, and drill all in one tool seems almost too good to be true, but I truly believe that the Makita BTP140 is extremely innovative and perfect for anyone that uses those 4 tools regularly.

Timothy Courage is a drill enthusiast who has worked with tons of different types of tools throughout his life, and he still claims that the Makita BTP140 is one of the best he’s ever had. Here’s his review:

“This has GOT to be the finest impact driver that I have ever used and owned. It came with the hammer drill/driver as a package which made it an ever better deal at my local big name home store. Makita continues to set the standard in power and performance with the BTP 140 in the Xrp model. The new Li-on battery technology gave me a good feeling that I was not going to have to buy another expensive throw away battery that you often find the yellow competitors forcing you to do when they die after a few charging cycles. Nothing has ever felt so comfortable and yet powerful in my grasp. You will not need gloves to ensure you have a secure grip because of the rubberized palm backing. It is extremely well balanced and light. Way lighter than anything I have ever used and it is still an 18volt. The 3 amp hour power band allows a consistent trigger feel to the piece you are working on while you apply power. There is no learning curve to “get the feel” so there was no stripping out screw heads or breaking off bolt heads. I have done my homework regarding the Makita brand and I can be assured that I believe all of them to be spot on in their statement that Makita is the best of the battery tools out there. I agree and I am not an easy sell. In fact, I am usually the guy that all the bad things happen to in that “broad instance”. I don’t get that feeling out of this set that I bought from Makita. ”

Even though it’s lightweight and can fit into small spaces, it has a high performance motor that delivers 380 unit watts of power.

The DeWalt DC759KA cordless drill has a dual-speed range (0-450 RPM and 0-1500 RPM) so that you can choose the setting that is best for whatever job you’re doing. It charges in as little as one hour, and comes with two batteries, a double-ended screwdriver bit, and a heavy-duty case. This drill is also very light, weighing only 5.2 pounds. Another great thing about the DeWalt DC759KA is the 1/2 inch keyless ratcheting chuck which provides really good grip for your drill bits.

Pros:

Fits into the smallest of spaces

Quick charge

Quieter than most drills

Smaller but still powerful

Cons:

No side handle

Some people have said the battery life could be better

Perfect for:

1) Tight spaces

2) Minimizing fatigue

3) DIY projects at home

4) Difficult jobs

Great features:

Weighs only 5.2 lbs

½” single sleeve keyless ratcheting chuck

Dual speed range (0-450 RPM and 0-1500 RPM)

Only 1 hour to charge the battery

Delivers up to 380 unit watts of power

Click here to purchase the DeWalt DC759KA on Amazon where it’s currently on sale.

Whether or not you’ve purchased a DeWalt drill before, you will not be disappointed with the DeWalt DC759KA cordless drill. Even though it’s smaller and very light, it still packs as much power as most of the bigger drills you can find.

While the battery life could be a bit better, it does come with two 18-volt batteries so that you’re able to charge one while you use the other. The batteries are said to charge in only about an hour too. Overall, I think this is a good drill and it’s worth checking out.

R.A. Livingston is one customer who has written a DeWalt DC759KA review, and he truly loves his drill. He’d recommend it to anyone who’s looking to purchase a top-quality drill.

“When I “moved up” from an 8.4V Black and Decker to a 12V Craftsman, I thought I had arrived in life. Due to some incompetence at the Orange Box, I picked up a brand new 759KA for $89 (read it and weep!). It is incredible–loads of power, long lasting and quick charging batteries, easy to hold for long periods of time, one hand chuck, good feel in the hand, and dual speed range (IMHO) is just right. It was my first DeWalt tool, and I have since picked up a 16 ga finish nailer that is equally great. FYI: my old B&D still works well (battery is phenomenal; go figure) and my Craftsman did well but the batteries died at the 13 month mark.

You won’t be unhappy with this tool, and unless you need a bulkier and heavier 18V drill, this is up to anything. The batteries are not the “XRP” designation but I can’t see any room for improvement with the “plain” DeWalt 18V batteries.”

A really good drill you can buy for this purpose today is the DeWalt DC720KA.

With its high performance and durability, the DeWalt DC720KA cordless drill is one that you can count on. It contains two 18-V batteries, both of which are fully charged within 1 hour, and a heavy-duty carrying case to protect your drill.

Pros:

Easily fit into tight spaces

Lightweight

Optimal performance because of its dual speed range

Cons:

Several people have said the battery-life isn’t as great as it could be, but it does come with two of them so you can always have the extra charged and ready to go.

Perfect for:

1) Heavy duty work

2) Tight spaces

3) Minimizing fatigue

4) Drilling into wood as well as metal

Great features:

4.8 lbs

½” chuck to reduce slips

2-speed range (0-500 RPM, 0-1700 RPM)

Frameless motor with maximum power of 410 unit watts out

L.E.D. worklight

On-board bit storage

Two 18-V batteries so you always have one ready

Click here to get this DeWalt on Amazon where it’s currently on sale cheaper than anywhere else I’ve seen. Amazon also offers Free Shipping on this drill.

Many DeWalt DC720KA reviews have stated that it can be dropped repeatedly and still work, which just proves how durable this drill really is. What I really like about this drill is that even though it’s small enough to fit into tighter spaces, I don’t feel that power has been sacrificed at all.

The one drawback with this particular DeWalt model is the battery life. It definitely could be better, but overall it’s not terrible. On the plus side, it comes with two batteries so you can just charge one while you use the other and you shouldn’t have any problems.

If you’re looking for something that can withstand the test of time and help you with all your projects around the house or on the job site, you can’t go wrong with the DeWalt DC720KA.

One person who wrote a review of the DeWalt DC720KA cordless drill stated:

“Best drill I have ever had. It just has a better feel to me than my friends Milwaukee. I had a Ryobi that worked well for 1 year, but after a year it started to run rough and it was suggested to me to buy a more quality tool. Wasn’t sure to get Dewalt, Makita, or Milwaukee, but I’m glad I got this Dewalt. Small for an 18v but more than enough power.”

This drill is leading in it’s class with its 570 in.lbs. turning torque. However, it is still extremely lightweight and convenient.

The Hitachi DS18DL cordless drill weighs in at 4.6 lb and 9.95 inches long. Although this is slightly longer than some other drills on the market, if you’re looking to do serious jobs, the extra length is necessary. This drill has a 22-stage clutch and a 4-speed selection, which is double that of the majority of drills.

Not only does the Hitachi DS18DL cordless drill look really cool with it’s bright green color, it won’t let you down when it comes to performance either. With 570 in. lbs. of turning torque, there’s almost nothing that this drill cannot rip right through. Even with it’s slightly larger size, this drill is still pretty lightweight and easy to grip.

It doesn’t matter if you’re truly a professional or just someone who enjoys DIY-projects at home, this drill will help you accomplish just about any task.

Read this Hitachi DS18DL review from T. Wilson, who has experienced several different drills and still vouches that this is the best:

“I have purchased several brands of battery powered drills for installing electrical lines in new construction, so I tend to use my cordless drills more than most. This Hitachi is hands down the best I’ve ever used. Not only the superior torque, but the battery life is incredible. My Pan/Dew/Craft and Mil drills were all ‘good’ but suffered from some sort of problem. This thing chews through wood like its made of butter – the Lith/Ion batteries are incredible. the light on the side really works well also. The looks are a little “toy” oriented – reminds me of my Kid’s Transformer toys, but the performance is unsurpassed.”

I found it to be the cheapest price for this drill.

All around, the Makita 6347DWDE is a great drill. It contains tons of power and efficiency, it’s very comfortable to hold, and the batteries are some of the best ones found in any drills. On top of that, the Shift Lock Drive feature is amazing. You can easily switch from drill to driver mode with the touch of one button.

Kevin Woodward, one of the purchasers of the Makita 6347DWDE drill, had this to say:

“When I first saw the 18-volt powerhouse Makita 6347DWDE drill at this price — which doesn’t even include the significant manufacturer’s rebate — I thought it was too good to be true and quite possibly a misprint. I had to re-read the description and the fine print a few times before making my order.

After owning this drill for six months and using it on a number of projects, I couldn’t be happier. The battery pack has proved more than adequate in delivering plenty of power over an extended time period and it’s great to have the backup available just in case. Charging is fast and easy, too.

Despite the size of this drill, it is surprisingly light and well-balanced, comfortable to use even at odd angles and at arms length. You absolutely can’t go wrong here.

The benefits of owning quality power tools go without saying. And Makita is a name you can trust. This is not a toy … it is the real deal. Don’t settle for good when you can have the very best. It’s definitely worth a few extra $$$.”

It’s plain to see why the Makita BHP452 is a great choice for anyone who drills a lot. It’s extremely versatile, lightweight but still very powerful, holds a battery charge for quite a long time, and very comfortable to grip. I definitely recommend giving this drill a try.

Check out this Makita BHP452HW review by Forest Majors to see what he has to say:

“One of the best portable power tools that I have purchased. I required a small hammer drill with enough power to drive cement screws into a well seasoned fireplace from the inside of the chimney. Not only did this Makita BHP452 Drill perform well inside this small space, it performed better than my other more industrial size hammer drill. Secondly, the lithium-Ion batteries hold a charge forever. Very Impressive – highly recommended.”

Made for both professional contractors and at-home projects, this 15.6V drill can be used for various types of projects.

The Panasonic EY6432GQKW is designed to deliver 390 in.lbs. of torque. With it’s two different speeds, 65-450 rpm and 200-1450 rpm, you can choose which speed is appropriate for the job you’re doing, whether it be simply driving screws into some wood or fastening something into metal.

The drill also has an 18-stage clutch, which promises a controlled and precise drilling experience. Since the Panasonic EY6432GQKW cordless drill weighs only 4.8 pounds and is a small 8-3/16 inches long, it will be able to fit into any small places.

Convenience is key, which is exactly what you can find with the Panasonic EY6432GQKW drill. The contour grip is comfortable for both right- and left-handed people, which helps cut back on cramping and a painful hand. Also, the battery can be charged in just under an hour, and has 75% more power than the batteries found in many drills.

Pros:

Powerful yet small

Contains 18-speed clutch, which many drills are lacking

Battery charges fast

Cons:

Now that you’ve read my Panasonic EY6432GQKW review, it’s not hard to see why this drill is a great choice. For the smaller size, this drill packs a ton of power. I really love how the batteries last a long time and charge quickly. It comes with two batteries so that even if one dies, you got another at your disposal.

The keyless chuck is another awesome feature and it really helps stop the drill bits from spinning, something a lot of other drills I’ve used lack. One thing you need to be careful with though is snapping your screws due to the power and torque of this drill.

All things considered, the Panasonic EY6432GQKW is a great cordless drill and I think you will be very pleased with it.

For even more proof, here’s what Jonathan Pec had to say after purchasing this drill:

“Shear power. At 390in./lbs. of torque I have been having trouble trying not to shear the heads off of galvanized screws (pre-drilled w/countersink). I’ve tried both speeds, and all of the clutch settings. This has forced me to drive screws 7/8 of the way home and finish off the deal by hand.

I just finished using this Panasonic to drill 3/4″ x 2 3/8″ deep holes into a hardwood workbench for bench dogs. The Panasonic maintains constant speed under strain, and while getting hot, it did not overheat. The only reason I would need to stop was to let the fostner bit cool down.

The 3.5 amp NiMH batteries are A+++++. The kit comes with two, so you always have one in the ready. One charge lasts a full day under heavy use. The drill is well balanced and has good ergonomics. The electronic brake stops on a dime. This can’t be good for the brushes, but no problems so far. I like the weight of this drill, it is substantial but not too heavy.

The best feature of all – SMALL DRILL BITS WILL NOT SPIN IN THE CHUCK. WOW

I will probably dedicate the 15.6 volt to drilling and buy the Panasonic 12 volt cordless for driving screws. The 15.6 easily overpowers cheaply made screws. Highly recommended!!”
